Standards Australia has developed strict extra virgin olive oil definitions to prevent inferior quality products being passed off as the real deal.
It also cracks down on the misuse of terms such as premium, super, pure, light/lite, requires "best before" dates to be no more than two years after bottling and makes the country of origin clearer.

Cobram Estate, Australia’s largest and most awarded extra virgin olive oil producer, has won an unprecedented Best of Show in two out of three categories at the 2011 Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition. Cobram Estate single origin 2011 Reserve Picual took home the gold and Best of Show honours for “medium” intensity category. Cobram Estate single origin 2011 Reserve Hojiblanca earned a gold medal and Best of Show status in the “delicate” intensity category.

Awarded by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS), the President's Medal recognises Australian producers for their profitability, sustainability and high-quality produce. It is Australia's only produce competition in which food and winemakers are judged against each other in a whole-of-company approach incorporating all aspects of the business from production through to marketing and sustainability.
Cobram Estate Fresh & Fruity Extra Virgin Olive Oil was awarded Champion status at the Spring 2010 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show and hand-picked as one of six finalists in the running for the prestigious RAS President's Medal title. The winner will take home $10,000 cash and the silver Heritage medal
